Another VCV Rack session, as usual, the patch is available here. This one was done with V2, so should definitely load fine for those who have updated the program. Video was captured from MilkDrop 2.

Noise Therapy: Session 017

Bah! Humbug.Another VCV Rack session, with video captured from MilkDrop 2. As usual, the patch is available from the FSA website (link below).https://vcvrack…

If you want more noise, I also posted a new track to the Skin Contact Bandcamp page, a follow-up to last year’s “humbug.” It is available as a “pay what you want” download.

Playing with VCV Rack again… the audio and video both originate there with this one, though the video has been given the Acid Cam treatment. This patch was made in V1 of Rack, and I haven’t tested it to see if everything will load in the recently-released V2. The patch will be made available here just the same.

The audio in this one comes from NANDroid, being processed in Plogue’s Bidule (with Autophage, among other things). The video is footage of the game Deer Simulator run through Acid Cam.

Noise Therapy: Session 015

Audio in this one comes from the recently-released VST3i NANDroid, which is free, and can be downloaded from the FSA website:https://www.fstateaudio.com/?pag…

NANDroid is a noisebox synth based loosely on the TrigPulser module I built for my hardware Lunetta-style modular. As such, it shares some DNA with the “Loid’s Cousin” Reaktor ensemble as well, which also features a section based on that module. This plugin takes the idea in a slightly different direction though, with stuff like LFO’s and a filter.

You can get the plugin (in VST3i format) and hear audio demos at the VST plugins page.

The audio in this one comes from Loid (hardware Lunetta-style modular) being processed through various things in the Bespoke Synth modular DAW.

The video is footage of my wife and I playing Dead or Alive 6, glitched beyond recognition with Acid Cam.

More fun with VCV Rack, using only free modules. The patch can be downloaded here:

Thanks for listening/watching!

Several years ago, I wrote a similar article which gained some popularity due to getting “stickied” on KVR. I’d been thinking about doing an update for a while, and I was recently given some motivation to finish it by some folks posting in the old thread there and showing interest. The new article is now finished, and has been posted to the Articles page:

A Free Windows-Based Software Studio, 2021 Update

Trying out a new toy in this one, a free/donationware modular host called Bespoke Synth.

Bespoke

Bespoke is a software modular synthesizer. It contains a bunch of modules, which you can connect together to create sounds. Bespoke is like a DAW* in some ways, but with less of a focus on a global timeline. Instead, it has a design more optimized for jamming and exploration.

I’m enjoying it very much. 🙂 The audio here is all coming from two recordings of native New Zealand birds called Tuis, which make really cool sounds. I grabbed samples of the audio from an Instagram post by a friend of my wife (the post seems to be gone now).

Most of the processing is being done with Bespoke’s built-in modules, messing with playback speed and position, and adding some stutter and delay effects. There is a VST plugin providing reverb (bx_rooMS), and another on the main stereo buss providing compression (Royal Compressor).

The video is footage from Goat Simulator, once again glitched beyond recognition with Acid Cam.

Enjoy!

The main sound source in this one is the recently-released Particul (Reaktor ensemble), with plenty of effects, of course. Loid (my Lunetta-style modular setup) is also present, along with some hardware effects and feedback loops.

The video is an OBS capture of Id’s classic Quake FPS (running in the quakespasm engine), glitched out beyond recognition with Acid Cam. Here’s a screenshot showing the settings used to process the video:

As a huge fan of the ESQ-1/SQ 80– and Ensoniq synths in general– I couldn’t resist getting Arturia’s new emulation during the introductory sale. Some minor issues aside, it seems to be a great emulation, and I’m having fun with it. I decided to put together a bank of patches for it, including a few sounds from my archive imported via SysEx and modified. The imported files have all caps in the names, and overlap with the SQ-8L bank also available from the Synth Patches page, though these versions are different now.

The SQuee 80 bank includes 48 patches, and is a free download. Enjoy!
