Over the course of 2022, I had some fun messing around with fractal music generators and other generative toys, and I’ve decided to release the results under a new project name. Some of these tracks were originally going to be part of a new Fugue State album, but I ended up getting really into it and soon had enough to fill an album. Since I could see myself doing more of this kind of thing in the future, I decided to call it something else as well, rather than having a bunch of oddball semi-themed releases under an existing project.

Audio is a bit of noisy ambient soundscape from VCV Rack, the video was generated in TouchDesigner, with some slight post-processing (the glitchy bar-ghost trails) via Acid Cam. As usual, the final video was assembled in Kdenlive.

This is an experiment in using TouchDesigner for everything, audio and video. Although TD has some cool audio features, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for this purpose after trying it. The two biggest reasons for this are the CPU requirements, and the fact that there are generally better, easily-available tools for the audio side of things.
That said, it was fun to create something where the video reacts not only to the audio itself, but also some of the control signals being used in the audio synthesis.
